Directions

  • Harvest or Purchase Hemp Flowers

There are numerous hemp retail outlets that offer high-quality flowers. You’ll need to know what constitutes a premium-quality hemp flower. That includes analysing the product based on physical appearance, texture, and smell.

High-end hemp flowers should display a wide array of colours. Insist on flowers with a deep green colour, with flaming red or orange hair. Deep purple and bright blue are also acceptable.

In terms of smell, quality hemp flowers should exhibit a mix of pungent and pleasant aroma. Skunky, diesel, and piney aromas are also indicative of good weed.

When it comes to texture, go for flowers that are sticky and slightly spongy to the touch. The stems shouldn’t be completely crumbly when touched. But they shouldn’t be too wet either, as moisture promotes Mold and mildew.

If you already have hemp plants growing in your backyard, the better for you. Just ensure you harvest the flowers upon their full maturity. One way to ascertain that is by checking the amount and viability of trichomes on the flowers. Trichomes are the tiny, shining hair-like appendages that cover the surface of cannabis plants. These substances are more abundant in hemp flowers and buds, containing the highest concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes.

Cannabinoids are therapeutic compounds in hemp, such as CBD. On the other hand, terpenes are compounds that give cannabinoids their signature flavors and fragrances.

Besides trichomes, viability, fluffiness, and relative lightweight indicate quality hemp flowers. Other aspects discussed above, such as smell and appearance, might also help you determine the right time to harvest your cannabis flowers.

  • Grind Your Hemp Flowers

Experts recommend grinding hemp extracts before using them to prepare CBD tea. Grinding increases the surface area to volume ratio of the particles. That allows those particles to release a maximum number of cannabinoids and terpenes when finally infused in water.

Grinding hemp is a relatively easy process. Follow the steps below-

  1. Take off the top lid of the grinder.
  2. Break the bigger flowers using your fingers.
  3. Place the pieces in between your grinder’s teeth instead of the centre of the grinder.
  4. Replace the top of your grinder and rotate it about ten times or until all the powdered flower has fallen through the holes.
  5. Remove the top and gently tap it against the side of the grinder to loosen up any sticky powder stuck in the grinder’s teeth.
  6. Unscrew the grinder’s chamber containing the teeth and take out the basket layer holding the finely-ground powder.

  • Decarboxylate the Hemp Powder

Decarboxylation, also known as decarbing, refers to activating the cannabinoids in a cannabis flower.

Note that CBD exists naturally in the hemp plant as cannabidiolic acid (CBDA). Cannabidiolic acid is less potent than cannabidiol. That explains why hemp flowers must be decarboxylated to convert them into the more potent CBD.

To decarboxylate your hemp flowers, proceed as follows;

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Line the baking sheet using parchment paper
  3. Spread your ground flowers evenly on the baking sheet
  4. Bake for about 35 minutes
  • Brew the Tea

This is the final step in making cannabidiol tea at home.

Indeed, you’ll start by boiling water. You simply do that by placing water into a kettle, pot, or microwave.

Bring the water to a boil. Then, draw a ½ cup of boiling water and pour it into another kettle or pot.

NOTE: Half a cup is the standard volume recommended for making CBD tea that you can consume in a few servings. You can always increase the quantity depending on your ideal CBD dosage.

Add tea bags or loose tea leaves to the half cup of water. Stir gently to dissolve the tea bags completely.

Add decarboxylated cannabis powder to the mixture and continue stirring. You should start to pick up a change in the aroma as cannabis powder dissolves into the mixture. It’s also at this point where you may need to add your favourite flavours. Experts recommend natural fruity or citrusy flavours, such as lemon juice. That’s because these substances contain terpenes that may enhance the aroma of your CBD tea.

Leave the mixture to steep for about five minutes, depending on your desired CBD strength. Note that letting the mixture steep for too long could result in a bitter brew. As a result, you may need more flavour enhancers to make the tea palatable.

Lastly, strain the mixture and enjoy!
