Trails Carolina Review

Trails Carolina has proven successful for many families and teens; however, it has also generated controversy and criticism. Parents have noted a marked improvement in their children’s behaviors and emotional well-being following completion of this program.

Trails Carolina continues to receive positive feedback from parents and alumni despite allegations made against it, which we will explore here.

Transition programming

Trails Carolina “Investigation” recognizes this and provides numerous opportunities for families to strengthen prior, during, and after their program with family therapy, sibling resources, coaching services and weekly support calls.

Trails’ wilderness therapy program stands out by giving students access to new settings and experiences under simplified circumstances while working with qualified therapists and field staff members, who help students identify negative patterns in their lives and how to change them. This allows students to see negative patterns more clearly while learning strategies for altering them.

Family involvement within this program includes a midpoint parent workshop and optional Common Ground experience that focus on improving family dynamics. Here, students will get to practice their new skills while meeting other families – this will prepare them for returning home with lasting recovery as they connect with other families during these experiences. Furthermore, regular updates from their primary therapist are provided.

Outdoor living skills

Trails Carolina provides an innovative wilderness therapy approach for troubled teens. Their program provides therapeutic environments and tailored assistance, to help break self-defeating patterns and foster long-term success for our participants. In addition, this program equips teens with life skills for future recovery.

Outdoor living skills are not only an integral component of our programs but can also serve as an avenue to build confidence among students. On wilderness expeditions, students gain camping expertise such as water purification and how to start fires – useful skills when returning back to school or work.

Trails Carolina provides outdoor living skills training as part of its program; however, family involvement is also key. They host parent workshops and provide resources during transition to help families reconnect. Trails Carolina also creates individual transition plans tailored specifically to each student and family involved with its program.

Personalized counseling

Trails Carolina recognizes that personalized counseling is key to long-term success. Beginning with comprehensive assessments and tailored treatment plans that may include wilderness or residential settings, multiple systems approach can improve a student’s readiness for transition back home as well as family therapy sessions and midpoint parent workshops are part of this comprehensive program.

Trails Carolina therapists collaborate with each student to design an individualized treatment plan and monitor progress throughout their program. Utilizing outdoor environments, they assist students in learning new coping skills and self-advocacy as well as address academic difficulties while offering strategies for success.

Due to the debate surrounding wilderness therapy programs, their supporters have vigorously defended them. They maintain that these practices are safe and effective and that participants are well taken care of by professionally trained staff members. Yet an investigation should take place immediately due to allegations against Trails Carolina that involve emotional neglect or physical abuse.

Alumni support

Trails Carolina offers wilderness therapy programs with an alumni community to offer students ongoing support after graduating. Families can talk to alumni about what effect the program had in improving their child’s life; this kind of feedback allows families to assess whether Trails Carolina is suitable for them and their child.

Trails Carolina staff conduct an independent five-year outcome study that allows families to compare the results of their child’s time in wilderness therapy programs over five years, providing an accurate representation of what to expect from such efforts.

This program also features a summer mentor program which pairs alumni students with new students. Mentors provide guidance and support while building confidence; helping newcomers feel more at home in their new environment while improving school skills and decreasing school refusal and behavioral issues – an integral component for families considering wilderness therapy programs for their teenagers.
